Jill Murphy is a widely acclaimed children’s author who is best known for her series, The Worst Witch. She began writing as a young child and it was her experiences whilst at a convent school in London which gave her the inspiration for The Worst Witch. She finished writing The Worst Witch aged 18 but it was turned down by 3 publishers. It wasn’t until she was 24 that it was eventually published. It was an instant hit and The Worst Witch series was even turned into a popular ITV series. Jill Murphy is well known for many other titles including The Large Family series. Her books have won many awards including the Nestle Smarties Prize and the Sheffield Children’s Book Prize.
