James Nicol* has loved books and stories his whole life. He grew up near the North Norfolk coast, a place teeming with legends about witches! And as a child spent hours absorbed in novels, watching epic 1980s cartoons or adventuring in the wood at the bottom of the garden searching for dragons and witches!
He says that the book that turned him into a reader was The Hundred and One Dalmatians by Dodie Smith and the book that made him wat to be a writer was The Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula le Guin.
Originally intending to become an art teacher he decided instead to run away and become a bookseller. Now when he is not writing he works part time in a library – yes, he really does love books THAT much!
He now lives near the beautiful city of York in a house with too many books and too many musical instruments (most of which he cannot play!) with his partner and a black and white cockapoo called Bonnie. He is occasionally mistaken for Stampy Cat (the Minecraft youtuber super star) He is scared of spiders and makes the perfect Yorkshire pudding. He loves pizza!
