Dunja Jogan and Olivia Hellewell
Dunja Jogan* is an illustrator and graphic designer who lives in Trieste, Italy. In 2015, her book The Elephant Tree was nominated for best picture book in Slovenia. Felix After the Rain (2020) is Dunja’s debut picture book for Tiny Owl. It has been translated from Slovenian into English by Olivia Hellewell. It was awarded the PEN translates grant which celebrates diverse writing from around the world and strong and innovative publishing projects.
In Felix After the Rain, Dunja wanted to show how a compassionate, open and playful way of listening to feelings has a healing effect on all of us. She wanted to highlight that children should be able to express their feelings without shame or insecurity.
Dunja’s works are exhibited all around the world and published in numerous magazines and publications. She has been selected for the Annual of Italian illustrators three times in a row. While living in Rome, Dunja collaborated with different graphic design and advertising companies and has also worked in Germany and Austria.
Olivia Hellewell* is a translator from Slovene to English of literary fiction, children’s fiction, and non-fiction in the field of arts and culture. She enjoys working with young children to introduce them to new languages and cultures. For her PhD research, funded by the ESRC, Olivia investigated the production of literary translations in post-independence Slovenia. She runs translation events and workshops as a way of highlighting how reading literature translated from other languages can introduce us to new ideas and images.
